LAR01: Far and Wide

[Over the course of a few minutes, seemingly by way of brush, an image is drawn onto a page in the Liber Nuntiorum.]



[A short while later, a new individual's handwriting graces the book's pages.]

I've drawn map of Concord. Mind, the pictures of the landmarks aren't really to scale, but they're in the right locations.

[Another little pause.]

I'm Larus Moon-In-Water, the guy from the Outlands who lives in a tent outside the gates of the South Quarter. I'm sorry I wasn't available for everyone's questions over the last few days, but I was busy making sure I had all of the details right.

[Beat.]

If you do have any questions about what you all call 'Outlanders' I can answer them now if you'd like.

Yeah. I never fought with a weapon - unless you count tools - and what I saw in that book seemed more like my thing.

[Somehow, Duster could almost read the excitement there.]

Did you prefer the style with the striking blows or the style with the pressure points?

[A teacher who is happy to have a student and won't yell at him? Can this truly be happening?]

I don't know anything about pressure points. [That sounds more like a massage thing.] I've just beat up enemies with good shoes on.

What's the pressure point style like?

Oh. I'm sorry, I guess my drawings weren't as good as I'd thought. It's hard to try and draw diagrams of it, I guess.

There's an energy that flows through every creature. You can think of it like a body's sense of volition. And we believe a lot of magic actually works to affect your ability to use it.

But it can be redirected through the body if you know exactly where to [...] poke. You can practically pull that magic right out of people, or even heal them with a press of your finger.

Wow.

[Duster's never had any kind of magical ability. Sure, he could flip over an enemy and scale walls, but he couldn't heal with his mind.]

Actually, I'd like to hear more about that kind of magic. How do I train for that?

It's not magic. It's just [...] a complete understanding of how your body's own energy moves.

But you have to start with the basics of being what you'd call an Outlander. Conditioning, getting used to the outdoors, that sort of thing. Eventually, you'll find it just lets you

listen to your body. You may not understand now, but you'll understand eventually.

[Duster doesn't get it, but when does he get anything? Apart from music, apparently.]

I'm down for that. Is there a Guild where I get to practice?

But I could help you get started. Did you understand the basic exercises I had outside my tent?

I practiced it a bit. I'll have to go back to the tent review them anyway.

But once I understand the basics, I can head out to the Guild?

I don't even know if there's a way to get back there now that the world's broken apart like this.
